harry potter and the sorcerer's stone.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was first published in the UK under the title Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in June 1997 by Bloomsbury Publishing. The book was an instant success, winning several awards and in September 1998, the book was published for the first time in the US by Scholastic Publishing. The film rights to the book were immediately secured by Warner Bros Pictures and the book became as much of a success in the US as it had been in the UK, and the popularity soon spread worldwide.

Sorcerer's Stone tells the tale of orphaned 11 year-old Harry Potter, who is living with his horrid aunt and uncle and their son, Dudley. On his 11th birthday, though, Harry is told that he is a wizard and will soon be attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry learns the truth of his parents' deaths and of Voldemort, the dark wizard who killed them, and who also tried to kill Harry as a baby, only to have his spell backfire on himself. But Voldemort is not truly dead, as Harry learns in his first year at school. However, Harry has his new friends, Ron and Hermione, as well as the teachings of Hogwarts to guide him through his adventures.
